• I have a WP site on Ionos (former 1&1). In the last month someone has been trying to buret force their way in with thousands of attempts to log in using my user name and the wrong password. I have a plugin installed called Limit Login Reloaded, and it blocks the hacker’s IP after three tries, but they just get a new IP address and keep trying.

At first, I did not know how they got my user name. After searching, I found out that, unbeknownst to me, WP automatically assigned my username as the AUTHOR of the site, and a simple search of the source code of a page revealed my user name. I got that changed, so now they don’t have my user name, but they are still trying with the old one.

I doubt they will ever get in, but I am worried about this and seeking counsel and ideas.
