I have installed multiple wordpress sites and have done so on the same hosting package. I have a VPN from 1and1 hosting.

    I created a htaccess file enabling php5 – AddHandler x-mapp-php5 .php

after setting up the wp-config file, and when I try to go to: http://www.mydomain/wp-admin/install.php it tries to download the install.php file.

In the help files within 1and1 on enabling php5 it states: “Also in PHP5, the variables allow_url_fopen and allow_url_include remain but are disabled or turned OFF by default.”

Could that be the issue or am i missing something else? any help would be greatly appreciated…Thanks!!

Just wondering why you have to even do that, because PHP is turned on by default on most hostings, and mod_php, fastcgi, or php-fpm should be configured correctly.

    Why not ask your host?
