  • Nothing looks out of place over here on Safari or Firefox. I Personally like your Fishmonger and Smoking Jacket themes better. I do like the latest logo though, looks sweet.

    Just to help you and everyone else here, there is a new article on WordPress Site Reviews on the WordPress Codex, documenation site. This gives a good outline of what to expect from a review of your site here, and how to prepare to have your site reviewed. FYI.

    ==================

    I did not play around with the Theme switcher because I only evaluate one theme at a time. The one I ended up with is the very very dark one.

    I like dark backgrounds, but only when the text and content has enough contrast to make it easy to read. It is great for photography, but not for words.

    The header is very interesting, but again, not a lot of contrast and difficult to make out. And it is very tall so it means I have to scroll down a ways to make out the first post, something I’m not a big fan of, unless there is something VERY interesting to see in the header, since I’m going to be looking at it for a while as the page finishes loading.

    In the Asides section, I can’t make out the text at all. I have to enlarge it quite a bit and it is still difficult to read. The font is small and the color just doesn’t have enough contrast.

    The framing around the photographs and the thumbnails is very nice, and it works well for showcasing the images.

    The graphic in the footer of the main page is neat. It kinda sneaks up on you. Nice touch to connect the overall theme.

    You do have some errors to clean up, but most of them involve nested lists and the use of align="center" which is not a legal usage. Here are some articles to help you figure these out:

    http://codex.wordpress.org/Wrapping_Text_Around_Images

    I like the drop down script for listing your subcategories and such, but after clicking on them in Firefox (latest version), I can’t scroll down. Control of the mouse on the page is lost. I have to click the page again to get the response back. Not sure if you can fix it, but thought you should know.

    The single post is nice, with the sidebar staying in place, but again, I have to scroll down to get to the text and the comments are very hard to read, as are the instructions for the comments. I like that you toned down the “white” of the input boxes, and they might look nice dropped down a little darker in tone so they aren’t quite so overpowering. Just a couple steps. There’s a great website for tweaking color I found recently that you might want to check out. Very cool: http://www.colorschemer.com/online.html

    The mouseover link effect works really well with your site color scheme, though I’m not a fan of the hover effect on the link itself turning almost invisible as there is almost no tonal contrast between the red color you’ve chosen and the dark background. I like to “see” what I’m hovering over, so I would prefer a little brighter or lighter tone of red on the hover, but the white link hover information works really good against the dark. It’s very hard to have this look good with a lot of Themes that are so busy, the link over information only clutters things up. Nice touch.

    In general, the look is very sophisticated and on the right track. Consider making the header a little narrower, adding a little more contrast to the type, and fix those little errors. Very dramatic look.

    Thanks for the lengthy feedback. I’ve added a little more contrast to the texts as suggested. I might suggest you check the contrast controls on your monitor if you can’t make out the header though (to be clear that is not a jab – I haven’t heard of anyone else having trouble discerning the image).

    Some of the suggestions are a matter of preference, but the useability issues are worth pursuing.

    Like at least one other poster I read I’m merely interested in feedback – good or bad. I don’t beleive wordpress users should have to seek out the codex and go through a step by step approach just to ask for feedback in these forums. It over-complicates things, which is more daunting to the new user than helpful – and wordpress can already be quite complicated for new users (in the year or so I’ve been on these forums that has been a consistent criticism). The intention is good, I simply feel it’s unnecessary. Anyone can ask for feedback, and anyone can give it. Its hardly an exact science after all. One man’s eyesore is another’s Mona Lisa. We should be working towards keeping/making the wordpress community accesable to all levels of users. Even those merely looking for feedback and not a stroll through the codex.

    All that being said, thanks again for your comments and criticisms everyone, they have been helpful.

    Your site looks awesome! Not to critisize your last theme, but I think this one is way better. Nicely done
