Broken/Gapped Navigation Menu Buttons

I have recently found out that the theme I am using, Skeleton, main navigation buttons have a “break” or a gap when being viewed in IE7, IE 8 and just IE in general. The menu drops down as it should but when hovering over past onto the submenu item that is under the gap/break, the menus just behave as if the user has navigated away from the menu.

Is there a way to fix this issue? And if anyone could explain how. I was sure that the necessary code was in the source to account for this? Any and all help would be appreciated.
