Broken themes? (6 posts)

Just set up a test blog on my laptop, and everything has gone smoothly execpt for two things:
    1. All installed themes are incapable of being activated. WordPress responds with "The active theme is broken. Reverting to the default theme."
These themes work fine on my online blog.
    2. The themes are not editable in the Theme Editor, at the bottom of the page it says "If this file was writable you could edit it."
Obviously i have something setup incorrectly on my server. Whether is a permissions thing or .htaccess issue or whatever, i'm not sure. Perhaps these two issues are related.
    Any thoughts?
Running the 12/11 nightly, also tried 12/10 nightly.

I would grab another theme, and test with that:

    # http://www.chrisjdavis.org/2004/12/03/persian-101/ (Persian)
    OS / setup ?

It is not the nightly. I've been running updates daily from the CVS and running the theme switcher and haven't had any problems in that area. What themes are you trying? Is the theme directory available to WP? How about a link to your test site, or is it not "online" also?

Unfortunately i cant give you a link since it's just a test server i've set up at home.
I'm pretty sure it's not WordPress giving me problems...it must be something configured incorrectly on the server or a permissions issue (which i've checked about 50 times).
Interestingly, when i take the "themes" folder out of wp-content, i still get the following message "The active theme is broken. Reverting to the default theme." This is even when there are no themes and it's defaulting to the default theme.
The primary reason for me setting up this test server on my laptop is to develop a theme, so this is a little bit of problem!
    Any thoughts are appreciated.
    Mac OS 10.3
    PHP 4.3.9
    MySQL 4.0.21
    Currently using 12/13 nightly

When you set up your test server (I assuemed you used a back up version of your current site, correct?) did you change the blog/site url/uri in the options?
