I upgraded some plugins on a WP site last night, then updated the Customizr theme and the site broke with this message at the top of a white screen:

Fatal error: Cannot redeclare class menu in …/wp-content/themes/customizr/parts/class-header-menu.php on line

I did some research and found a couple fixes, which I tried. That didn’t work. Then I uploaded the current version of Customizr and WordPress (4.0) via ftp and I’m now getting this message:

Fatal error: Access to undeclared static property: TC_init::$instance in /usr/home/ xxxxx/xxxxx/theventurajazzorchestra.com/wp-content/themes/customizr/inc/class-fire-resources.php on line 39

The site is http://theventurajazzorchestra.com. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks so much!

    Hi @donnagreenedesign, I would suggest to :

    1. log in to your ftp,
    2. delete the customizr theme folder,
    3. upload twenty fourteen (if not already present) in the theme folder,
    4. log in to your WP admin,
    5. re-install the customizr theme from appearance > themes

    Hope this helps

    That sure did. Thank you!!

Just having a problem with the slideshow now… and this error at the top:
Notice: Undefined index: id_base in …/theventurajazzorchestra.com/wp-includes/class-wp-customize-widgets.php on line 507

    Any clue?

Thanks so much for your help! I spent a lot of time trying to get this to work today.

Got the slideshow working and that error is gone. All the other pages have an error now:

    Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator at webmaster@theventurajazzorchestra.com to inform them of the time this error occurred, and the actions you performed just before this error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

    I’ll keep at it… thanks!

ISE is usually associated with something wrong in .htaccess or wp-config.php

Before diving in to those, maybe if you can still login to the backend, try resetting your Permalinks

Go to Dashboard>Settings>Permalinks, choose a different option (not Postname) – Save – Choose Postname – Save.

Also try the obligatory Plugin test. Deactivate all your plugins, test. If OK, then re-Activate each Plugin one-by-one to find the culprit. Let us know which one if I’m right.

You might want to ask your host for help too. It’s often easier for them to figure out what’s wrong.

rdellconsulting, thank you for that. The other pages show up now. Whew! Except I noticed a link on a page was struck through, so I went to check it out then updated the page on the dashboard side and got a white screen with bunch of errors. This has really messed up the site. Wow… And ElectricFeet, you offer a good suggestion. Thanks. Here’s what I got:

Notice: Undefined index: authorship in …/theventurajazzorchestra.com/wp-content/plugins/wordpress-seo/inc/class-wpseo-meta.php on line 451

Notice: Undefined index: type in …/theventurajazzorchestra.com/wp-content/plugins/wordpress-seo/admin/class-metabox.php on line 694

WordPress SEO is clearly at the heart of your current problems, so try ripping it out and stabilising before finding out why that is a problem.

Depending on if you’re testing on localhost or the live hosting, the fastest way is to delete /wp-content/plugins/wordpress-seo folder, which will remove it.

Once again, you are spot on in your assessment. Thank you so much for your help. I had spent so much time trying to figure it out, but this really isn’t my field of expertise. Much appreciated!!

    One last thing…

I’m actually still getting an error when I go to the Customize area for the theme. Any thoughts?

I think I’m going to have to switch to another theme. I can’t even get to the ‘Customize’ section. I just get an error. Thanks for all your help.

    Hi Donna,
    I just checked your website.
When I tried to display the customizer, I had the following error message :

Fatal error: Class ‘WP_Customize_Widgets’ not found in […]theventurajazzorchestra.com/wp-includes/class-wp-customize-manager.php on line 75

This is clearly not related to the Customizr theme.
You might want to re’install WordPress v4.0 for this website, looks like it misses some of the core files.
    Hope this helps.

    Hi Nikeo,

Yes, that’s what I get. And reinstalling again is what’s what I suspected I need to do. Thank you for looking at it.

Has anyone else had their site broken when they upgraded Customizr? It was strange.

I followed all the advice on this thread. In the beginning, the host offered to put a backup of the site up, but I didn’t see why it wouldn’t just happen again so I didn’t have them do that. I hadn’t upgraded to WordPress 4.0 yet when this happened… I had the previous version. Also, now the host says they can’t help me with this because I ftp’d WordPress on to the server instead of using their software manager. But I had no choice, since I couldn’t get into wp-admin.

    Thanks,
    Donna
