Support » Plugin: BulletProof Security » broken mobile friendly site

  • On WordPress using suffusion theme, this plugin blocks resources that Google needed to test the site as mobile friendly. Site appears to be responsive on desktop (changing browser size), but not on mobile devices.
    Watch out!

hmm no one has ever reported this before about the suffusion theme or BPS blocking anything that Google does/uses. If you would like additional help to try and figure out what the actual problem is then please create a BPS plugin support forum topic and post the name of the mobile device plugin that you are using and we will test it to see if there are any conflicts/problems/issues. We use WPTouch and have tested several other mobile device plugins and so far no conflicts/problems/issues with any of them. Sorry to hear you ran into issues/problems. Thanks.

I had some spare time so I decided to test this scenario just in case there is some sort of issue/problem.

    Google Mobile-Friendly Test tool: https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/mobile-friendly/

    Test 1:
WordPress Twenty Fifteen Theme activated/in use and BPS BulletProof Mode activated and deactivated.
Results: Same result with BPS BulletProof Mode activated and deactivated: Site is mobile friendly: Google Mobile-Friendly Test tool reported/displayed: Awesome! This page is mobile-friendly.

    Test 2:
Suffusion Theme activated/in use and BPS BulletProof Mode activated and deactivated.
Results: Same result with BPS BulletProof Mode activated and deactivated:
    Google Mobile-Friendly Test tool reported/displayed:
    Not mobile-friendly
    Page appears not mobile-friendly
    Text too small to read
    Mobile viewport not set
    Links too close together
    Content wider than screen
This page may appear not mobile-friendly because the robots.txt file may block Googlebot from loading some of the page’s resources.
Learn how to unblock resources for Googlebot.
If you’ve made sure Googlebot is not blocked, you can see Pagespeed Insights
for more details on detected issues. Learn more about the differences between the two tests.

Conclusion: Whatever issue/problem is occurring is not related to the BPS plugin in any way. BPS does not do anything with a robots.txt file so my hunch is that the Suffusion Theme uses a WordPress Virtual Robots function and it is blocking something that Google sees as a robots.txt file and something that Google is expecting to see/find or something that Google cannot access and needs to access. You should contact the Suffusion Theme folks and have them look into this issue.

I have numerous mobile friendly websites use BPS. Impossible that this plugin has effect on that Google test.

@batyuvitez – Yep, we are very careful about doing anything in BPS that has to do with Search Engines, visitor traffic and website performance, but to be 100% sure that the user was incorrect/mistaken we went ahead and did some testing to conclusively prove that the user was incorrect/mistaken. I believe this should have been reported as a support forum topic and not a review since whatever problem that is occurring on the user’s site is not related to or being caused by BPS so the review itself is basically null/void/meaningless. 😉

@aitpro, great mobility exhibited in your responsive support and feedback to this user’s misplaced review! Your customer service efforts impressed me enough to go ahead and download/try your BPS plugin. (I now must research and find out if BPS is compatible and/or if BPS is redundant with Sucuri Firewall service…but, I’m sure you cover that well elsewhere.) So, no customer support effort is ever wasted. Great job! Thanks. Cheers

@stevewharton – Yep, we stick to logic and facts. No drama, no fluff, no hype, no BS, no flowery sappy hand holding speak that makes you want to vomit. “Just the facts jack”. LOL 🙂

The only known issue/conflict with the Sucuri plugin is the wp-content one-click hardening option that adds an htaccess file in your wp-content folder. If you enable that option then BPS Security Logging will no longer work.
