After updating WooCommerce, links in image captions are displaying HTML code for Product image and Product gallery.

This has been tested and verified several times using different themes, on different sites and hosting environments, and using only WooCommerce.

Can anyone else verify this issue on their site(s)?

Is a fix currently available? Thanks y’all!

    Hey there,

I checked your site, but I’m not able to see any examples. It sounds like you might have removed the HTML as it’s not working properly.

WordPress has supported HTML in image captions since WordPress 3.4. However, most WooCommerce sites don’t show the image caption. Can you please share an example of where you’re using the caption so that I can try testing this on my end?

    Thanks!

    Thanks for the explanation!

I was able to confirm this on my end as well:

I wasn’t able to find an existing issue for this, nor a clear mention of it in the changelog. Can you please create a new issue on Github and then link to it from this thread?

Here’s where to create the issue:

This is due to HTML not being enabled in PhotoSwipe. By default it is not enabled. Are you adding this in the image’s caption or description?

Thanks again Hannah for checking it out, confirming the issue, and pointing me in the right direction for reporting it.

Thanks Stef! The HTML is being added to the image’s caption.

Got it. I should have said that I’m not positive but that a lot of devs shut this off for some reason. I’m not sure why.

I’d check with your theme author first to see if they did indeed disabled it.

Check with a default theme to see if it does the same thing. If not then it’s the theme you are using.

I’ve tested using Storefront, which should support it, but double-checking with Twenty Nineteen is a good call.

Marking as resolved due to the linked GitHub issue being closed.

This is now an enhancement with votes needed – https://github.com/woocommerce/woocommerce/issues/23641
