  • I’d start by killing the plugins directory by renaming it. Just adding 1234 to the end of the directory name will kill every plugin running there.

If everything comes back okay then you can turn the plugins back on one by one to find the problem child there.

Else kill the theme by renaming the directory for that theme. That will force you to a default theme.

I’m thinking one of the two above is probably the problem. The login modal isn’t showing which is probably theme related but could be a plugin issue. Always start with the plugins.

I suspect it is something that I added/removed in error. What comes to mind is rss (I didn’t actually mean to remove it, was looking up what how it should properly be displayed as there was an error). That’s the only thing I touched, other than the site name, but hadn’t changed/saved anything.

The theme had been there through multiple saves and I hadn’t added any additional plugins so don’t think that was it either.

Any suggestions as to how to actually get back logged in so I can figure out what is/isn’t there that should be? I’m doing this for someone else, so don’t have the directory login info. I could get it if need be, but if I can access another way that would be preferable.

    Many thanks,

    Michele

If it was me I’d do exactly as outlined before.

It sounds like your session timed out for some reason and the modal was broken when you tried to get back in.

That doesn’t sound like anything you might have tweaked within RSS.

If I was doing this myself I would have to proceed as I outlined above.

If I didn’t have the directory access needed I probably would not have taken the job or at least proceeded much more carefully.

You could get in via the CLI possibly but for that, you’ll need access to the server’s command line. That is an option but not all that good an option. Doing things from the Command line isn’t the easiest.
