• Not only was this plugin awful, but it broke several other plugins. I uninstalled this, but now those plugins still don’t work.

    Do not install this!

  • Hello smartlass,

Would you be able to list the plugins that got broken ?, as this would be helpful in compiling a damage report, and the developers could include warnings in the next release, or possibly prevent Gutenberg installing on the systems with known problems with plugins.

The damage may be able to be repaired, if it relates to text that you may entered using the editor. There is a “classic” editor plugin that you can install as a way to revert from Gutenberg. This might (though I have no real idea) help work around any code (e.g. html) that Gutenberg has damaged.

Thank you for taking the time to install, test, review, and uninstall this plugin.
And I am also sorry to hear that you had such a poor experience with it.

Which plugins did it break? Can you recreate the issue on a fresh install? If the devs don’t know, then the bugs will remain 🙂

Hi and thanks for your review. If you could share some information about those plugins then that would be really helpful.

I can name one: image galleries are broken. If you install it after Gutenberg activation, it won’t even work. Elementor is also an issue. Preview of pages is broken (very weird layouts).

Sorry for the delay… was so frustrated and needed to fix things as my first priority.

    It broke:
    Jetpack
Insert or Embed Articulate Content into WordPress
    Category to Pages WUD

It may have broken others, but those are the ones that I primarily use and immediately noticed they were broken.

This is bad news about Elementor.

I JUST finished building a site for a client. The person working on it before me started the site in Elementor so i continued to use it.

I am absolutely TERRIFIED to try Guttenberg on that site as we JUST got it online. In addition, many plug-ins are used on that particular site.

I also have five other websites I maintain and again I am absolutely terrified of breaking those as they are eCommerce sites and we don’t have time for them to be down or redeveloped using other themes or plug-ins.

Just my two cents but if Guttenberg breaks sites due to plug-ins and themes where does that leave all of us? Rebuilding everything from scratch??

lindacarey, in cases where there are plugins or themes that are problematic, the Classic Editor plugin will be there for you until updates can be made. You should not have to build everything from scratch.

    smartlass,

    It broke:
    Jetpack
Insert or Embed Articulate Content into WordPress
    Category to Pages WUD

I think there are features missing from Jetpack, such as Publicize options, and I can help look into those things and make sure they are reported. I tested Jetpack 6.5 with Gutenberg 3.8.0-rc.1 today, and things were not broken but my test was basic to make sure various blocks in posts and pages were working—I didn’t look at specific Jetpack features but could look into it further with more detail about what’s going wrong in your case.

I am not familiar with the other two and would like to note the links for them for reference:
