• My wp site is hosted through godaddy, and I decided I wanted to change the domain name. I followed godaddy’s instructions to do this, but missed the bit at the end of the page that said “NOTE: A domain change may break your site if you have WordPress installed. If it does, see the instructions on WordPress’s site.”

Oops. Well, now my site basically doesn’t exist. I’m fairly certain I didn’t back it up, which sucks. However, the instructions godaddy directs me to (http://codex.wordpress.org/Changing_The_Site_URL) have not helped me to fix the problem. What I want to do, even if I have to start all over (not too horrible, started a few days ago, but still unfortunate), is to have a wp site again. I’m afraid if I install wordpress as an application on godaddy (like I did before) I might override some pre-existing or left-over data from my site I “broke.”

Any suggestions on how to start back up? All this happened over a single letter…

I would recommend manually installing WordPress as opposed to the Godaddy installer.
Follow the detailed instructions written out in the codex.
It will take longer than the 1-click install that Godaddy offers, but you’ll learn a lot, and while you’re in there creating your new database for your new site, you can delete the old one.

Saw your post. This article should be helpful in fixing the broken WordPress site: http://x.co/YT89. Good luck with your site! ^Courtney

First of all, thanks for the help! At first everything seemed like it was going to be fine, but now I’ve got more problems.

After attempting to create a new database, delete the old one, and use phpmyadmin to get my site back (failed, instructions not simple enough for my brain), I may have screwed things up further. Both databases are now deleted. So I went to uninstall wordpress as an app and just reinstall it again, which has created a new database (what I did in the first place at the beginning, which worked fine). Problem: when I visit the site to edit/login/you know, I get nothing (site does not exist). Same for the old url. What’s this all about?
