My website uses single categories, so I would like to get rid of breadcrumbs to declutter the site. Is the breadcrumbs markup generated by the plugin (the one) used by Google?

    Hello!

Google uses whatever they deem fit as a breadcrumb. Albeit the canonical breadcrumb script outputted by The SEO Framework, the visual one outputted by the theme, or even the URL structure.

So, you can disable the breadcrumb script of The SEO Framework (and theme, if any), and that should trim the markup in Google Search after they reprocess your pages. Just make sure that /%category%/ isn’t part of the permalink structure, and you’re good to go!

I actually want it to show in google. Or is it better to just set it to display:none to hide it from the theme but let google crawl it?

    Hi again!

I misread your initial question. Yes, The SEO Framework’s script is used by Google; it’s the canonical breadcrumb list that receives the highest priority.

So, the simple display:none trick will work well without side-effects on Google. 🙂
If the theme has an option to omit it, then that’d be preferred, but the CSS workaround is fine too.

    Happy holidays!

I implemented the breadcrumbs manually with a custom plugin. I think I will let your plugin handle it and delete the custom plugin. Thanks.
