• Hello,

I have a photography page and use my “attachment pages” for photo details. I upload photos to WordPress “unattached” and then manually attach them to the post/page/custom-PT where I use the photo, using WP’s Media Library, by filtering for “Unattached” items, and then using the “Attach” feature.

I have Yoast Breadcrumbs added to the attachment pages and up until recently, they’ve been working fine. Now however, even after “attaching” them, the breadcrumbs do not show the complete “path” but rather, just Home >> Title, as if the attachment was still unattached.

    This can be seen here:

    https://www.alex-kunz.com/plant/nemophila-menziesii-var-integrifolia/pale-nemophila-menziesii-var-integrifolia/

You see that the URL clearly shows where this photo is “attached” to, yet the breadcrumb doesn’t show this.

Only when I manually go to the editor and click “Update” (without actually making changes) the correct “path” is shown in the breadcrumbs, for example here:

    https://www.alex-kunz.com/plant/nemophila-menziesii-var-integrifolia/baby-blue-eyes-flowers-leaves/

Unfortunately I can’t exactly say when this started to happen, so I’m not even sure if it’s a Yoast issue, or if something has changed with a WordPress update? I’m just scratching my head and would be grateful if someone could point me into the right direction, if only to further investigate myself.

    Thanks!
    Alexander.

    Hi @antermoia

We’re not sure how your CPTs for your website are structured, but there should be options for which taxonomies to appear in the breadcrumb path in the WP admin dashboard > SEO > Search Appearance > Breadcrumbs tab option.

We’re not exactly sure why the breadcrumbs are just showing ‘Home > Post’ and why updating it without making any changes “updates” the breadcrumb to show the taxonomy (by default, if you include categories for the posts, it should show the primary category in the breadcrumb path), as we might need to investigate further on your site, which we are unable to do so here.

You can learn more about how to implement and modify our Yoast SEO breadcrumbs here – https://yoast.com/help/implement-wordpress-seo-breadcrumbs/

Hello @mikes41720, and thanks for your response.

I should have been clearer, I’m sorry. The behavior I’m seeing isn’t limited to my CPT. It happens with posts and pages as well, and I verified the breadcrumbs configuration.

For example, this photo is (for testing purposes) attached to a page, as can be seen from the URL:

    https://www.alex-kunz.com/about/this-site/sycamore-in-spring/

The breadcrumb only shows “Home » Sycamore in Spring” though.

For comparison, another item (my logo) that is also attached to this page (an older upload) shows the correct breadcrumbs:

    https://www.alex-kunz.com/about/this-site/alex-brush-logo-402x/

Thanks for any other ideas you might have.

    Alexander.

    Hi,

We’re not exactly sure why the Yoast SEO breadcrumbs aren’t showing the expected breadcrumb path if you’ve configured it correctly in the backend settings (as to why an ‘update’ would ‘refresh’ it also).

Could you try resetting the indexables and checking if this helps?

    1. Install & activate the Yoast Test Helper plugin
    2. Go to Tools > Yoast Test
    3. Locate the Yoast SEO section and click on the ‘Reset indexables tables & migrations’
    4. Go to SEO > Tools, and under SEO data, click the “Start SEO data optimization” button to allow Yoast to rescan your content.

Otherwise, if this doesn’t solve the issue, we might need to investigate further, which we are unable to do so over these forums. You might want to consider Yoast SEO Premium so we can take a look at this further.

Hello again @mikes41720 and thanks for the follow-up.

I installed the plug-in and ran the steps you listed. The “Sycamore in Spring” photo now shows the correct breadcrumb path, so it looks like this was a success.

I’ll keep an eye on this in future uploads and will report back if it happens again. (keeping my fingers crossed)

Thank you very much for your assistance!

    Alexander.
