    Hello,

I’d like to report a bug I’ve noticed in the breadcrumb generated by Yoast SEO.

When an article is published by the REST API application password feature (default wordpress functionality), the category that appears in the breadcrumb is the default wordpress category.
However, the specific category is selected in the admin and the article is listed in the correct category page. It’s just the breadcrumb that’s wrong.
To correct this, I simply need to update the article manually (without modifying anything) and Yoast then displays the correct category in the breadcrumb trail.

It seems that Yoast is unable to retrieve the category when the article is published via REST API and therefore displays the default category in the breadcrumb.

I’ve tested this on several sites using different themes and it seems to me that Yoast is the only one responsible for this behavior.

I invite you to test by yourself and you’ll certainly get the same result.

It would be great if you could apply a fix in one of the next updates 🙂

    Thanks in advance

    Hello Erwan,

Thanks for reaching out about this. After publishing the article and you notice that the category that appears in the breadcrumb trail is the default WordPress category, can you try these steps to see if it makes any difference?

    1. Install & activate the Yoast Test Helper plugin
    2. Go to Tools > Yoast Test
    3. Locate the Yoast SEO section and click on the ‘Reset indexables tables & migrations‘, ‘Reset Prominent words calculation‘, and ‘Reset Internal link counter‘ buttons. After each click, the page will reload to confirm that the specific reset was successful.
    4. Go to SEO > Tools, and under SEO data, click the “Start SEO data optimization” button to allow Yoast to rescan your content.

We look forward to hearing from you.
