Support » Fixing WordPress » Brand New User – Cannot Access Admin Page

  • I set up my domain and hosting today and when I set up my WordPress page, I didn’t know I had to go into the Advanced tab to enter my domain name so I was issued one. When I called BlueHost, they said to go into Settings-General and retype the Domain and URL and save the changes. I did that but now I cannot access the admin page. when I try, it just takes me to my web page which just states that the website is under construction. How do I fix this??? Thank you in advance!!!

See Changing_The_Site_URL for details of how to do this correctly.

I was looking at that but couldn’t find the wp-config.php file

It is in the folder that you installed WordPress into.

I didn’t install wordPress, Bluehost did that for me. I’m sorry, I am an absolute novice at any type of website setup!

Then you may need to ask Bluehost to assist you. The information that they provided you was totally incorrect and I am really surprised that their support was quite so poor. Unfortunately, there is absolutely nothing we can do at this end to help.

I will call them now, thank you for trying!

I am really surprised that their support was quite so poor.

Every once in a great while I get a Support Tech that seems to me to have recently come from somewhere else and would prefer to tell me my problem is with WordPress and I need to call my Developer!

@angelsway33: If you cannot get you new site *exactly* as you want things to be, just have a Support Tech reset or “nuke” your account so you can again begin at the very beginning and get things as you do want them.
