I have installed the automated tax plugin, but I’m wondering if Woocommerce understands the book sales system here in Canada. . . I am having difficulty confirming in my online research, but I thought here in Canada, that most book sales were not taxed. I saw an article for Ontario today where journals, notebooks, and colouring books are no longer tax exempt, but most of my searches to confirm that for BC where I am, keep thinking when I say books, I’m talking accounting, which I’m not. I’m talking the sale of paperbacks or hardcover or digital. My tests of the shopping cart reveal both PST and GST being tallied for my store. I need to tell the automated system that I am selling books, and ensure the correct rates are being charged in provinces where the rules may be different. If anyone here has found the current tax table for the sale of books across Canada, I’m all ears, because the automated system is charging unnecessarily.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

    I found this: https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/tax/businesses/topics/gst-hst-businesses/charge-collect-specific-situations/suppliers-publications.html

But the woocommerce tax area won’t let me set it up. I disabled automated taxes, then went to the zero rated tab to enter the PST tax in and was told no matching tax rates. But when I went to the standard tax tab, there were two entries there from my testing with the automated tax plugin, and a strange entry in the row: BC Tax. . . huh??? BC has PST and GST, we don’t have “BC Tax”. . .

According to the above link, I charge GST on book sales, but not PST. How on earth do I set that up when Woocommerce thinks BC has some sort of BC Tax?! For provinces that charge HST, will I run into the same erroneous name? province-tax???

I think I figured it out. . . The automated system spelled out the country and province while manually, I have to use ONLY 2char codes.

I can bring up the strange occurrence, although as mentioned, I eventually discovered the need to enter all details in code, not spelled out. I’ll mention that over in the other forum.
