I edit photos in Lightroom then export them to my computer before uploading to WP. I export at 1200W so my vertical images become about 1200×1700 in size.

When I upload the full size vertical images to wordpress, I prefer to change to a custom size – 550×822 because this feels like a more comfortable, easier-to-view size for the post. When the custom-size image is viewed in the post editor and in preview mode it is crisp and clear looking. However, once I publish, it becomes blurry. On the link I included, look specifically at the last vertical image before the recipe card.

If I keep the original size it does not become blurry after publishing, however, it is just so ridiculously huge on the post it’s not realistic to keep vertical images this size.

I realize wordpress/kale theme is changing something but my question is can I do anything about it so that I don’t lose quality when making my images smaller? I am happy to upload a specific vertical size, but when experimenting this wasn’t working either.

  • Hi there,

Thank you for getting in touch with us.

I had a look at your site and it seems your image doesn’t look blurry on my side. Please see this screenshot: http://prntscr.com/iomq9f
Actually it is displayed in its original size: 550x822px and it is not scaled so it shouldn’t be blurry.

Thank you for your time in this.

    Best regards

Thank you for your reply. However, your image does look blurry to me, compared to the original, which is super crisp and sharp. I don’t know how to include a screen shot of the way it looks before publishing. Also, that’s not the original size. The original size is 1200×1793. I resized it in WordPress to be 550×822. So I’m not sure what you are seeing on your end, but it doesn’t seem to agree with what’s happening on my end. Not sure how to reconcile though. thx.

    Hi there,

If you resized you image in WordPress to 550x822px then it is displayed in this size on your page. This is most likely the reason that it’s not so crisp as its original size: 1200x1793px.

Please, contact us via our support system here: https://www.lyrathemes.com/support/. We are not allowed to ask for your site’s details here, which would let us help you out.

    Kind regards
