    Hello everyone,

I’m facing a problem many times encountered, thumbnails rendered blurry.

I tried all the usual techniques used in this case, from media settings (change the size of the generated thumbnails) to the use of plugins like “ImageMagick Sharpen Resized Images”, edit functions.php etc … nothing works .

From my FTP, I notice that the generated thumbnails do not correspond at all to what I set in the media settings.

I specify that I use the theme Brook from Thememove. Is it possible that the problem comes from this theme?
I do not really know what else to do. Do you have a solution ?

    Thanks 🙂

  • The problem might come from the theme or a plugin. Try this: Disable the theme, uploads new images and check if the problem persists.

Ok thanks a2hostingrj, so I disabled the theme and all plugins.

The thumbnail sizes problem comes from Brook theme but not the blurred rendering. It’s still blurred a lot :/

but not the blurred rendering. It’s still blurred a lot :/

Do you any other plugin? If I remember correctly, there are some image gallery plugins that lets you select the thumbnail quality and by default it has “small”.

I see what option you want to talk about but I do not have it available.
I’ll search for a type of plugin you speak, perhaps this is actually the solution.

Ok so I did not find a plugin allowing me to activate the choice of the size of thumbnails …

Can you share a screenshot of your media settings? (/wp-admin/options-media.php)

    Of course 🙂 :

    Thanks!

I presume the images you’re uploading are larger than 680 x 680 to begin with?

Also, have you tried different browsers? I have a weird Chrome bug where things look blurry in that browser but not in others… probably not your issue, but worth checking!

Yes the images are more than 680px wide (2500px in my case).

I just tried with Firefox and Edge, same problem 😉

    Thanks!

    What thumbnails are being generated?

    Thanks!

    Thanks kgagne 🙂
I already tried theses fixes, none works …
About thumbnails sizes on a new 1902×1080 upload I get these thumbnail sizes:
    – 1600×900 (Regenerate Thumbnails Advanced plugin, OK)
    – 481×325
    – 670×377
    – 768×432

    It’s a mess !

Have you tried checking the box on your media settings? (“Recadrer les images…”)

About thumbnails sizes on a new 1902×1080 upload I get these thumbnail sizes:

Are the images still blurry or different size?

Sorry for the wait, I was getting my hands durty.

It turns out that my problem came from the theme itself, which automatically generated thumbnails too small for UHD / retina display.

This theme is huge in terms of files from where the duration of my investigations. I finally managed to find the corresponding lines of code. It was enough to double the size of the thumbnails to solve the problem.

Thank you all for your help ! 🙂
