Blurry images
-
Hi,
You say: And whether you spell it ‘optimise’ or ‘optimize’, Smush will compress images without a visible drop in quality.
BUT the images do get a bit blurry! Very frustrating.
How can I avoid this?
Thanks

Hi @charlotter
Sorry to hear you are having this issue.
Could you please let us know which page or section you see the blurry images on?
Kindly upload the original image on Google Drive and share it so we can test it to verify why it is getting blurry.
Best Regards
Patrick FreitasHi Patrick,
thanks for your quick reply.
This is the image on my blog – https://www.hundvanligahotell.se/sodviks-gastgivaregard-oland/
This is the original image – https://www.facebook.com/sodviksgastgivaregard/photos/1684078405126492
Look at the pot and the chair for example in the right corner of the image.

CharlotteHi @charlotter
Thank you for the image.
I was able to replicate it on my lab site.
We pinged the Smush team to verify why this is happening.
We will keep you posted.
Best Regards
Patrick FreitasHi @charlotter
Quick question on this.
Do you have this image without upload on Facebook before?
Facebook or those platforms also have some optimization process for images which can cause issues on the website since the image wasn’t optimized at different times.
Best Regards
Patrick FreitasHello again,
thanks for your reply.
Yes, I got the same image directly from the hotel as well. It looks the same sharp as the one on facebook.
Best regards
CharlotteHi @charlotter
Thank you for the information.
I did some extra tests and I would like to update my previous reply:
I was able to replicate it on my lab site.
I indeed was able to see a quality loss on my end, but it was because the Smush > Resize was defined to 500x500px and on my page, the image was loading on a 1200px container which will blurry the final result.
But there is a difference on your website, it is loading the original image instead of any thumbnail.
The thumbnails are versions of images that WordPress create, you can find more on:
https://wpmudev.com/blog/wordpress-image-sizes/
On the page it is loading the original image size:
https://monosnap.com/file/BToFfdXHiKHPuw7XahvdIxs1GTsYnn
This image won’t be Smushed by Smush Free version only on Pro version, which means the issue is not coming from the plugin.
By default the WordPress already compress any image to 80%, please find more on: https://www.wpbeginner.com/wp-tutorials/how-to-increase-or-decrease-wordpress-jpeg-image-compression/
You can increase it to 100% however we don’t suggest it.
Let us know if you have any additional questions about it.
Best Regards
Patrick FreitasHi @charlotter
I hope you are doing well and safe!
We haven’t heard from you in a while, I’ll mark this thread as resolved.
Feel free to let us know if you have any additional questions or problems.
Best Regards
Patrick FreitasHello Patrick 😊
thanks for your reply and I am sorry for not getting back earlier.
So what do you suggest I do?
What should I change in my Settings?Best regards
CharlotteHello there @charlotter
The issue doesn’t seem related to Smush but rather to the active theme being used.
In order to confirm, could you please deactivate Smush, reupload the same image and check how that compares to a new testing page?Thank you,
DimitrisHi Dimitris,
thanks for your reply.I have deactivated Smush now and uploaded the same image.
https://www.hundvanligahotell.se/testing-image/It becomes a bit blurry again so I wonder then what makes this happen. So strange, right? But I guess this has nothing do to with your plugin I just don’t know what it’s then..
Very frustrating.Best regards
CharlotteHello @charlotter ,
As Dimitris mentioned this might be your theme affecting the images.
In this case, we would suggest contacting the theme support.kind regards,
Kasia
