My WordPress website http://www.novelbenedictions.com is hosted Bluehost. I have the free version of CLoudflare running with it.

Occasionally, including today (right now), I get a DNS error. It reads:

    Error 1001 Ray ID: fa78a2c5df60a3c
    DNS resolution error
    What happened?
You’ve requested a page on a website (www.novelbenedictions.com) that is on the CloudFlare network. CloudFlare is currently unable to resolve your requested domain (www.novelbenedictions.com). There are two potential causes of this:
Most likely: if the owner just signed up for CloudFlare it can take a few minutes for the website’s information to be distributed to our global network.
Less likely: something is wrong with this site’s configuration. Usually this happens when accounts have been signed up with a partner organization (e.g., a hosting provider) and the provider’s DNS fails.

I know minimal coding and don’t really understand what all that means. I’ve looked at the Cloudlfare help section, but I don’t understand what it’s saying either. The problem usually resolves itself in a few minutes or hours, but I’m getting quite annoyed by it… any suggestions?

I do not have the most recent version of WordPress, but I can’t access my control panel at the moment to tell you what it is. 3.7.1 maybe?

Thank you in advance for your help.

  • I believe Bluehost was having some issues yesterday.

I had the same problem and decided to go directly to Cloudflare and not use the BlueHost addon. That way if the DNS was unavailable when the hosting service was also unavailable, Cloudflare’s caching could serve up saved content.

Plus, moving to Cloudflare lets me go to another hosting provider should I want to.

I had the issue sporadically for a while. I’m not well versed in code, so I could never figure out what to do about the issue.

I just switched to Twenty70 Hosting and couldn’t be more pleased. Goodbye BlueHost!
