Blog working, but no formatting or images?

  • My blog is hosted on my own server that, to my knowledge, is configured correctly.

When I access it on the server itself, it all works (including images). When I try to access it on a different computer, any images don’t work.

This is not a permissions problem, all folders are 755, and all files 644. I have triple-checked this, and as far as the server is concerned I can see no reason why it would treat the contents of the themes folder different from the others.

This issue seems to be only with the themes as other folders seem to be unaffected (/wp-images/get-firefox.png works, for example).

This doesn’t seem to be an issue with WordPress, but I thought I’d ask on the off chance… any ideas anyone may have would be greatly appreciated.

  • P.S. I can access the images directly from …/wp-content/themes/default/images/kubrickheader.gif (for example…) but it won’t appear when I access …/index.php !

Try editing the ‘hosts’ file on the computer that doesn’t display correctly ((windir)/system32/drivers/etc) and put something like 192.168.2.1 fullotherhostname (replace with the real IP and hostname of your server)

Thanks for the suggestion, but I’ve just found out what’s wrong..

WordPress is linking to the images as /localhost/wp-config/…. whereas I’m accessing them via a different computer, so my web browser is looking for the files on my computer, not on the remote server. Any ideas how I can change this?

Ok, I know how I can change that (wp-config.php) but when I do change it to the ip address of the server instead of localhost, it says ‘error establishing database connection).

All sorted now– thanks anyone who read this!
