 * Hello,
 * I’m the rankest beginner at WP, so please be gentle. I’m willing to RTI, but
   I’m still puzzling over the instructions.
 * I do know a bit about HTML and CSS. My ISP has set up a WP template for me. I
   rolled my own website years ago with a simple HTML editor. It now looks old and
   clunky. I want to move the content to a crisp but uncomplicated new WP-based
   site. After getting that online, I want to add some new pages, content and menu
   items.
 * So, I can look at my dummy WP site, and I figured out how to access /wp-admin/
 * I guess the next step is to choose a suitable template, customize it a bit, then
   add extra pages, and so on.
 * At the moment, I have the vague notion that WP is equally suitable for designing
   web sites or blogs. Is this correct?
 * If so, are some templates better suited for blogs, others better suited for websites?
   If yes, how do I find one or the other?
 * Thanks in advance,
 * Tim

 * Don’t worry too much about the difference between a blog & a website; Most themes
   are good for either. First make sure you understand the difference between posts&
   pages.
 * To setup WP without the focus on the blog, you can set a specific page as the
   home page rather than a summary of latest posts: [http://codex.wordpress.org/Creating_a_Static_Front_Page](http://codex.wordpress.org/Creating_a_Static_Front_Page)
   You can still use the blog functionality by creating a page called news (for
   example) and setting that as the posts page.

 * What if you didn’t want any pages to have the Blog Feature?

 * I am using the Dynamic Widgets plugin to determine which sidebars are displayed
   with which part of the site – so the blog looks different from the website. So
   far, it’s been my favorite plugin.
 * You have a plugin that let’s you exclude pages from the top navigation as well.
   The more I work with WP, the more I like it.
