Blog transfer to new domain (6 posts)

I have created a website using wordpress on a website (for example http://www.site1.com) but now want to transfer this site to a new domain which I have already registered and is ready to go (for example http://www.site2.com). I have researched and read up lots of info on this but when I try and carry out the transfer I just can't get it to work for some reason.

Can somebody please explain (step-by-step) how to do it or point me in the right direction to somewhere that explains it all?

I know there is lots of information on this on the web and believe me I have researched AND tried to do it but I must be doing something wrong somewhere along the line.

Any help would be much appreciated

    Hi dkiom,

Check out this article: http://sltaylor.co.uk/blog/moving-wordpress-new-domain-server/ which is referenced in the Codex: http://codex.wordpress.org/Moving_WordPress

This should get you moved over without a hitch.

    Thanks for that Dre,

I have read that article but I'm not 100% confident with what it all means, I was hoping to find a simpler explanation (if there is one?)

    Thank you anyway

    No worries.

That's pretty much the way to do it.

    1. Backup your files (themes/plugins/uploads) & DB

    2. Upload files to the new server

    3. Upload DB to the server & make appropriate path changes in wp_options

Those are the condensed steps, but are the things that need to happen.

If you have specific questions, post them so we can help.
