By managing two sites with the same intentions, I'd be more concerned with the time it takes to keep content up on both rather than duplicate content. If you're not trying to manipulate searches, then you should be fine but you may be splitting your visitors into two different sites.
I'm guessing the reason why you switched over to .org is because there are features that you'd like to take advantage of. If that's the case, I would continue down that path. If visitors are a concern, then you may need to perform SEO activities.
That being said, producing quality, unique content is the most important thing you can do for your SEO so if you're doing that, then you've already taken big steps in that right direction.
