# Blog Syntax Error

 * I updated my blog’s ([http://caseyaccidental.com](http://caseyaccidental.com))
   layout last night, and it looked fine. Today, however, I’m seeing this error:
 * Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘<‘ in /home/content/25/4613425/html/wp-
   includes/default-filters.php on line 229
 * I can’t even login to the wp-admin, and I checked that line of php using the 
   ftp, and it’s blank. Any ideas on what”s going on? I tried resetting the layout
   on the ftp side, and that didn’t work.
 * EDIT: What I did: changed a bunch of colors, got rid of the banner at the top,
   and re-uploaded the kubrickbg-ltr.jpg in the ftp as a grey image instead of the
   default. It looked and worked fine after all of this until this morning.

 * Sudden parse errors in a core WordPress file can be a sign that your site is 
   hacked. Check default-filters.php for any weird added code (compare to a freshly
   downloaded copy from wordpress.org).

 * Yeah, I see the weird code. What do I do now to fix it, and what caused me to
   get hacked?

 * Okay, I got to the point [here](http://codex.wordpress.org/FAQ_My_site_was_hacked)
   where it says back up, and I don’t know how. I use Go Daddy as my hosting and
   Filezilla as my FTP client. I clicked download from the main folder on the ftp,
   but I’m not sure that gets everything I need for a backup. I don’t know how to
   change my passwords either.

 * Okay, I’m making some headway, but am still nowhere near the end I’m afraid.
 * None of those backup articles helped. I don’t have phpmyadmin or know how to 
   access the database. All I know how to access is the ftp.
 * I tried those password resets, but I don’t know if they worked because wp-admin
   and emergency.php are just error pages. I don’t know how to change the FTP password
   yet.
 * I checked .htaccess, and it was clean, so I used the tip [here](http://www.snipe.net/2010/01/when-wordpress-gets-hacked/#axzz0oLNJKdg1)
   to disable the site to incoming traffic.
 * That’s about as far as I’ve gotten because it seems like in every article I should
   be backing up now, but I have no idea how to. Any pointers? I really appreciate
   the help.

 * Contact your web host about obtaining a backup of your database and tell them
   what happened.
