    Hi there,

I am pretty new to WP and am seriously battling with deleting/ removing the blog functionality from my site. I have searched high and low within the forums and on Google and the guidance I have found, I have tried but the blog is still present.
I am using the Ice Cap theme and am unsure if this is hindering me?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

First up, let's make sure we are talking about the same thing.

Do you want to remove the ability to display posts, and just have pages?

Or the ability for people to comment?

    Or some other functionality?

Over time on here, I've come to realize different folks have different definitions for what they call the 'blog capability'.

You narrow it down for us to specifically what you are referring to, and we can move forward!

    Hi Rev. Voodoo!
    Thanks for your reply.

I would like to remove the ability to display posts and for people to comment. In a nutshell, I would like it to be website and not at all a blog, if that makes sense.

    Any suggestions? Thanks.

Sure, make a page to be your front page

go to settings -> readin, set it as your front page. NOw, do not set any page to be your posts page. No more posts display anywhere

Next settings-> discussion, turn off comments sitewide

That should be a pretty good start!

Thank you for your help. I have followed these steps but I unfortunately still get the comment # and date on the Home page, when using the Ice Cap theme.
I have consequently changed themes (twenty eleven) and no longer have the "blog issue".
Perhaps it is relevant to the type of theme?

Thanks again for all your help. Changing themes just seems easiest after so many hours of frustration :)

Oh, it absolutely is theme dependent!

SOme make it easier to remove all traces than others. WP core only handles removing the actual functionality.

Some themes still keep traces of the commenting system in place (such as the comment number, or 'all comments are closed'). In such cases it's either switch themes, or get your hands dirty in the code.

Every author makes a theme that fits their needs, or their projected user base's needs. Not all themes are designed for all uses/applications.

Just a note: Any theme submitted to, or updated in, http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/ should allow you to remove all traces of commenting with the minimum of fuss.
