Blog posts separated from category posts

Hi,

I am trying to create a portfolio with the categories section and a blog on my website. Right now, every post I create goes to the blog. I have created different categories: blog, featured, portfolio and slide, and I would like to organize the posts between blog posts and portfolio posts, so if I categorize a post as a portfolio I would like that post only appearing on the portfolio section, not in the blog as well.

Is this possible? If so, how can I do that?
