  • Hi Greg. Have you made any recent changes that coincide with this issue occurring? For example, have you recently installed a new theme or plugin?

I would suggest starting out with the standard WordPress troubleshooting techniques:
    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).
    – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.
resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

Brad….Thanks for all the help. I tried it all and nothing seems to be working. I do remember messing around in my “Categories” section under Posts. I noticed that the category called “Surfboards” has no box to the left that can be checked. This is the category with all of the 87 posts. Underneath is a note that says:”Note:
Deleting a category does not delete the posts in that category. Instead, posts that were only assigned to the deleted category are set to the category Surfboards.
Categories can be selectively converted to tags using the category to tag converter.”

    Thanks,

    Greg S

Do you recall what you were doing specifically? It sounds like this information is going to be important. For example, were you rearranging posts / categories or were you actually deleting them?

Also, are you able to supply us a link to the page in question so we can do some further testing and see the error ourselves in action?

Hi Greg. I noticed that the:

“Sorry, but you are looking for something that isn’t here.”

… is the basic message for a 404. For example, the following URLs all produce the same message:

    http://sauritchsurfboards.com/blog/surfboardss
    http://sauritchsurfboards.com/blog/asdfsda
    http://sauritchsurfboards.com/blog/category

What I’m wondering now is how you have your homepage setup? For example, is your homepage setup to show a specific page, or is it setup to show blog posts?

    You can check this by:
    1. Logging into your Dashboard
    2. Under “Settings” in the left, click “Reading”

Then, let us know what settings you have on this page, please.

Mark…That did the trick. It was set to “static page” and I set it to most recent posts.

I am in the process of trying to find the perfect theme for my website, because adding new models is time consuming. I have searched thru Gantry, Ithemes and on and on. Just looking to do something like my site now by having a gallery of boards, with the ability to click on one of the images and a page opens with a bigger image and a brief description. Not really ecommerce, but a showcase and I can’t seem to find one.

    Thanks for all your help,

    Greg

Hi Greg, glad to see you got that one figured out!

There are TONS of themes online. I’m more familiar with installing and troubleshooting WordPress, but if you run into any theme specific questions, be sure to let us know and we’ll be happy to help further!
