    Hi folks.

    Google never picks up the snippets describing a post as I have written them in my Metadescription (using Yoast SEO plugin).

    eg: My Metadescription for my review of the movie ‘Loving Vincent’ is as follows:
    Visually, Loving Vincent is unmissable – a unique hand-painted animated work in Van Gogh’s style. Dramatically, it’s ho-hum.

    The snippet Google picks up changes each time I search for “Loving Vincent movie review” and browse through the pages until I find my post listed. The most recent entry has: It’s not as if a film like this is likely to have mass appeal in the Anglo marketplace. In summary, Loving Vincent is unmissable for its visuals, …

    If anyone could advise how I can ensure that Google shows the Metadescription as I have written it, would be most appreciative.

    We reviewed the source code of your post and we confirm that Yoast SEO is generating the meta description tag correctly.

    Sometimes Google may decide to change the meta description of your pages based on the search terms used or other criteria. For example, when we type in the search query “site:www.boomtownrap.com/10624/loving-vincent-movie-review/”, the meta description you have defined in our plugin does show up in the search results (see this screenshot).

    The likelihood of your meta description appearing in the search results increases incredibly when your meta description contains the sought for keyword, which is why the focus keyword functionality checks for the appearance of the focus keyword in the description.

    Thanks for your reply, monbauza, but to be honest it doesn’t give me much comfort. Who is going to type in a search query “site:www.boomtownrap.com/10624/loving-vincent-movie-review/”? To be realistic, a typical search query would be “Loving Vincent movie review”. This does not bring up the snippet as I’ve written in my meta description. AND, I do have the focus keyword in the description.

    So, I’m no wiser as to practical steps I can take to ensure Google displays the snippet as per my meta description.

    Thanks for the link on writing great meta descriptions. It’s helpful, but it doesn’t solve my current dilemma re Google not displaying my meta description as a snippet.

    If anyone has any more tips that might help, would be much appreciated. I imagine there are many others with the problem I’ve described, also.

    Hi,

    We understand that Google is not displaying in a standard search query the meta description that Yoast is correctly outputting (see: https://pasteboard.co/GU561PJ.png). As Yoast is outputting the right meta description, it is up to Google to use it.

    As Google is changing it we would suggest contacting Google for more information as to why they are changing it. You may contact Google by making a post on their forums: https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!forum/webmasters.
