So you’re right, there’s no post/page sidebar that goes beside the post content. The rationale behind this is that with the upcoming release of Gutenberg, the post content area, including sidebars will be controlled by blocks.
This is why we created sidebars above and below the post content. So that you can add widgets in those widget areas.
The other reason, is the design of the theme is following a stacked approach, rather than the sidebar approach. It’s a more modern way of design, however I completely understand the need and value of sidebars.
When Gutenberg rolls out ( it was supposed to be out by now ), Post and Page content creation in WordPress will change quite a bit, and we wanted to ensure that our theme is compatible from now, rather than wait, and force users to lose their widgets. We’ve actually already created a Gutenberg Blocks plugin (called Gutenblocks), which Buildr will be fully compatible with, and post sidebars in Gutenberg will be Blocks, not widgets.
Seeing that Gutenberg has been delayed, we are already investigating alternative methods of adding sidebars.
Let me know if you have any questions, suggestions or concerns. Also, if you can take a minute to leave the theme a review that would be appreciated.
We’re investing tons of time and resources into Buildr, and we want to improve the theme a lot moving forward, ensuring that it’s the perfect theme that users will utilize on all their websites, especially with the additional features being added to the pro version.
Hey, thank you for taking the time to write that explanation. I’ve been around long enough to know that most would not have done that.
I really like your theme and I’ll try doing full width blog posts but we were counting on sidebar widgets – I may have to put it on the shelf and come back to it later. You mentioned a sidebar alternative, how close to that do you think you are?
In any case, thank you and I’m sure we’ll be talking again.
We’re doing a bunch of updates right now and getting ready to release the pro version tomorrow, however next week we’re going to be updating the free theme again, and I suspect that sidebars on single posts will be available by end of next week. Worst case scenario, it will be 2 weeks at the latest from today.
We added sidebars to the theme!
There are now 3 sidebar widget areas (Sidebar A, Sidebar B, Sidebar C), and on each post/page, you can select the sidebar that you want for that post/page, as well as the location (Left, Right) View Screenshot
Additionally, we have added a blog/archive pages sidebar. This one doesn’t have any settings. Basically if you add widgets to it, they will show up, otherwise, no sidebar.
Just update your Buildr theme & Buildr Features plugin. These are all added in the free version.
Please take a minute to leave the theme a review, on the following page: https://wordpress.org/support/theme/buildr/reviews/#new-post

Any chance you can give the theme a review ? We added the features you requested, for free!
Please help the theme grow and give the developers recognition with a 1 minute review.
Happy to. And thank you, BTW. I was on VACA last week and am kind of behind this week.
