• Hi there, hope one of you guru’s can help me – i’ve been tearing my hair out all day scouring this forum and google!

I’m semi proficient in WordPress and have had a blog up and running for about 10 months now. It was all working absolutely perfectly. I have a static page set up as the homepage, and a ‘news’ section set up using the blog. I checked earlier today and I am totally unable to access the main blog page – it simply redirects me to a 404. I can still access the posts and categories. If I change the ‘posts page’ in the settings > reading options to nothing, the page I use for the blog can then be found.. but obviously there are no posts on it.

Another problem also happening is that whatever I do, I cannot generate a list of recent posts on the homepage anymore…

Does anyone have any idea what’s going on? I have tried playing with htaccess and permalinks to no avail.

  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem? If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-related problems?

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin? Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

I was dreading disabling plugin’s and was saving it as a last resort… I should have done it first!

It turned out to be that the client had been playing with the ‘simply exclude’ plugin and basically switched everything off.

    What a nice client! 🙂

Thankyou so much for your time mate, have a virtual beer on me!
