How do I get the feed on my Blog page http://extrahoursinaday.com/blog/ to display like I have it set up in the Customize>Blog Feed settings to be small image and excerpt, 2 in a row? It says in the customizer this applies to all blog feeds on all pages, but I can not figure out how to get this one to work.

    Thanks,
    Kirsten

  • Hi @extraho4.

    Thank you for contacting us.

It looks like you’ve set your website to use a static page as a homepage, instead of blog feed, and then you used Siteorigin’s widgets bundle to create that page.
That’s why you see a totally different result from what you expect to see.

Please go to Customize -> Homepage Settings and if you have “A static page” selected, switch it to “Your latest posts”. Once done, click Publish in the top left corner.

Please let me know if that helps.

    Kind regards.

I did have it on “latest posts”…now what 🙂

Now, the layout you’re referring to – “small image and excerpt, 2 in a row” is what you see on your homepage – http://extrahoursinaday.com/ and it applies to homepage only.

It doesn’t apply to a page, which http://extrahoursinaday.com/blog/ seems to be.

You can try to recreate the same layout by either using that SiteOrigin’s builder or a plugin Posts in Page – https://wordpress.org/plugins/posts-in-page/

Hope this helps, but if you have additional questions, just ask.

    Kind regards.

I am completely inept when it comes to this stuff and I was hoping to get the same look on my homepage, category search page or archives page on my blog feed page. It is very confusing when the wording in the program says “This applies to all blog feeds on all pages, including the front page.”
I used a SiteOrgin Widget Bundles because there was no other explanation of how to achieve this. The Posts in Page plug in gives me a list with descriptions, but includes no featured image and it just runs down the page.
    Confused and frustrated!

    Hi there,

We’re sorry for any inconveniences caused by this issue.

Kale display posts on category and archive page in three column layout as you can see on this demo page: http://demo.lyrathemes.com/kale/category/desserts/ On the home page set up to show “latest posts” (not static page) posts posts display in two columns layout with sidebar.
Only Kale Pro allows you to display category and archive page in two column layout with sidebar like on home page.

There’s no way to display posts on normal page without using some plugin or theme customization, however the plugin use their own layout not Kale post style.

    Hope that helps.

OK so the demo you sent me has a Blog page with a grid layout, http://demo.lyrathemes.com/kale/page/2/?demo=small, is this what you are saying can only be achieved by the Kale Pro version, because this is what I was tying to get.

    Thanks,
    Kirsten

    Hi Kirsten,

This example from Kale: http://demo.lyrathemes.com/kale/page/2/?demo=small is actually not a custom page but just the link to second page of the Kale home page.

What I meant is thay only Kale Pro have option for displaying sidebar on categories page. With Kale you can display categories page in three column layout without the sidebar.

I found some workaround for creating Blog page with all posts. You can add category for all your posts called i.e.: general and then add this category to your menu instead of normal page called Blog. You just need to rename this page to Blog. With this method all posts will show up on Blog page. Please note that this will be page with three column layout. If you want two column layout with sidebar you need Kale Pro.

    Hope that helps.

OK, I think we are totally confusing eachother…I do not and never did want a side bar on my categories page.
The example you provided above is exactly what I want, even if it is considered a second page of the home page. I not only chose Kale for the look, but the layouts in the sample. When I installed the theme it came with the “blog” page already set up, but I could not get it to look like the sample. Understanding me? I know I am confusing as well 🙂

@extraho4 Thanks for trying Kale, let me jump in here to see if I can help 🙂

Can you confirm that you’re trying to set up the blog page on a separate page like http://extrahoursinaday.com/blog/ ? And over there, you want to show the posts like on this page here http://demo.lyrathemes.com/kale/page/2/?demo=small ?

Right now, your home page is set to display the “blog” or the most recent posts. In WordPress, you can have the recent posts on the home page / front page OR a separate page only if you set a static page as the front page.

So the only way to your posts/blog to a separate page is to create a new page called “blog”, lets say, and then set that page as the posts page: https://codex.wordpress.org/Settings_Reading_Screen#Reading_Settings

So you’ll first go to Settings > Reading and choose a Front page (for example a new page called “Home”), and a Posts page (“Blog”) after selecting the “A static page” radio button under the “Front page displays” setting.

Please note, in this case, the blog feed is *removed* from the home page and instead moved to the blog page.

    Does that make sense?
