404 indicates failure to communicate with the server.
– it could be configuration issue
– it could be memory issue
– it could be permalinks issue…
– it could be optimization issue
– it could be a conflict with plugin/theme…
– check for .htaccess file presence and check if the default wordpress mod-rewrite code is there or not. There are times when .htaccess file is not writeable or gotten deleted
– Checking the server error log for your hosting account. Ask your hosting provider for assistance to locate them.
Ok, so then why is it just one single page, every other page on the site works but this one, that is a little odd that only one page out of 7 would just magically not respond when called by the server. I already know it is not an issue with the theme, I checked that with the company that provided it, so there is an issue with WordPress itself so that is what I am trying to figure out. The primary site is http://getmehealthynfit4life.com/.
I am my hosting provider so I have access to the logs, checked them, no explanation as to why the one single page isn’t showing up correctly.
I did however FTP in and notice that I have an extra folder called blog which I have never seen on any of my sites that I am running wordpress on, could this be an issue.
I have an extra folder called blog …
Try downloading the folder and removing the folder from your server and see if this resolves the problem.
I’m having the same problem, but for all my blog posts (pages are fine).
Have turned off all the plugins and tried another browser to see if is browser cache, problem still there. I’ll go through:
– it could be permalinks issue…
– check for .htaccess file presence and check if the default wordpress mod-rewrite code is there or not. There are times when .htaccess file is not writeable or gotten deleted
– Checking the server error log for your hosting account. Ask your hosting provider for assistance to locate them.
Not sure how to check for the following:
– it could be configuration issue
– it could be memory issue
– it could be optimization issue
Am on a shared server.
Will watch this thread with interest, and report back if I figure it out.
Check .htaccess and it was fine. Had a look at the logs and was not difficult to work out if there was any issue.
Then decided to turn back on all the plugins and voila it worked. Damned if I know the problem but for now I’m happy. For what its worth I was about to install a backup.
Thanks keesiemeijer, apparently the phantom blog folder was the issue, once I removed it the page appeared right away.
No problem. Just to explain, folders take precedence over permalinks. I’m glad you got it resolved
Same thing happened on one of my sites. Not sure what created the ‘blog’ directory, but it caused the same problem.
