[Resolved] Blog outside of main site?

  • Hi all,
This may seem like a simple question, however I have not been able to figure it out…

I would like to be able to run my blog in the Blog directory (/blog) and have my main site running in the root directory (/). All driven by WordPress 2.6.

I would also like to ensure that my blog gets the /blog/ URL in front of all blog pages (example: http://www.website.com/blog/about-time-for-another-update/) so that users will be able to distinguish the blog from the main site.

    Thank you,

  • One way to handle this would be to have WordPress installed in the root directory and your main site run through WordPress Pages. Use Posts to be your blog and set up a custom permalink structure to include the word “blog” in your URLs: blog/%postname%/

Would that do what you need?

    Thanks tsguitar.
I have thought about doing it this way, however, would I need to download a plugin of some sort to create a custom homepage? By default WordPress shows the latest posts on the homepage…

    Cheers!

What do you mean by custom homepage? Again, if you’re only talking about that page looking different — a different theme or style — you can use CSS to do it. By default WP does show the latest posts on the home page, but you can change it so the home page displays whatever you want. Just edit your Main Index Template in the Theme Editor so it is how you want it.

What do you want on your home page (website.com)? And then what do you want at website.com/blog?
