• About a week ago I started getting errors every time I tried to publish. The message said it couldn’t connect to mysql database. I called godaddy (my host). They got back to me two days later saying their server was fine and they could find no problems. I should backup my blog, uninstall wordpress, delete my database and reload everything.

Foolishly I did. Now it says I have no blog at all. (http://eclecticparent.com/blog) Called them again and harassed them until they said my index file is pointed to the wrong place and I have all sort of scripting in my database. Which was followed by ‘wordpress isn’t ours, go find help’.

Help! Please. I have no idea what to even look at to fix this. It had been working and now, even though I reinstalled all the files, it’s just not connecting. Any ideas, please?

  • Can you use phpMyAdmin to access your database? What is the database server you see in phpMyAdmin? Does the database server, user, password agree with your wp-config.php setting?

Accessing phpMyAdmin on a Godaddy hosted account
    1. Login to your GoDaddy account
    2. Hover your mouse over Hosting & Servers, then click on My Hosting Account–that causes your existing hosting accounts to display.
    3. Under the Control Panel column next to your domain, click on Open which opens the Hosting Manager Control Panel.
    4. On the menu on the left, click on Databases and then MySQL–a list of your databases will display.
    5. On the line that shows your database, under the Manager column, click on Open Manager–this will launch the login to phpMyAdmin.
    6. Enter your database user name and password.
    7. You then should see your database(s).

I’m sorry it’s taken me so long to reply. I’ve been trying to login to mysql database (I’ve done it before when trying to put a gallery and wordpress together). But now I can’t even login, even though I know my name and password. GoDaddy has been no help; they say they can get it with my name and password so I should be able to.

If I switch to another host, is this a fixable situation or is the whole thing a mess? I don’t have thousands of posts like some people, but I really don’t want to lose what I’ve got.

    Thanks

I used phpMyAdmin on godaddy today. No problem. If you can’t get into your database maybe try chaning the password to a know value.

OK, reloaded again and now can get into phpMyAdmin. I could get to wordpress on the new install until I tried to copy my old stuff over. Then I got the an error; it says my wp-config.php file is incorrect or that it can’t contact my database server. I called godaddy and they said all my settings are correct. I can login to phpMyAdmin so my db name is right, my password is right and I can them confirm my db host for the wp-config. They’re saying it must be something in the wp script but I have no idea what that means or where to look. Can you please tell me where that is and what I need to do to fix it?

    Thanks again

There’s still got to be something in your wp-config.php file that is not correct.
