Support » Networking WordPress » blog no longer accessible after author change for the article

  • Hello,

I’m trying to go from WP to WP MS and faced interesting problem. After setting up everything and creating 3 empty blogs I decided to create new user for one of the blogs. Going to Sites edit and adding user would not make any change. The only way to add user was to assign default blog by ID and creating user from the main Super admin area. Then automaticaly it would be assigned to the blog I wanted.

Using newly created user I edited first article and changed the author to that user. After that, I was no longer able to see the blog. Entering URL/blog3/ would transfer me to URL/wp-admin/ That’s it…

Trying to access it from IE where I was not logged in would transfer me to the login screen…

    Any ideas?

  • BTW I restored DB at least 3 times to a fresh state, and every time results would be the same :/

You need to go to Super Admin -> Users and create a user there. then once they are in the system, assign them to a blog by going to Super Admin -> Sites and Edit. then on the lower right is a box to add an exisiting user.

Or, you can add a user to a new site when you create that site. Input a new email address for a new site and a username with that site name will be created.

Or, turn on the option for admins to add users, from the regualr “Users” menu, same as regular WP.

    Thank you, Andrea_r,

you’re right about the users entry. Title clearly states:

“Enter the username of an existing user and hit “Update Options” to add the user.”

At 3 AM I overlooked that 🙂 But that doesn’t explain why suddenly blog become unaccessible? In edit menu of the post we see:

    Status: Published
    Visibility: Public

So I cleared the Dashboard Site setting in Super-Admin options. Created new user, assigned that user to blog and then attributed article to that new user and BAM it works! After that I could re-assign author to the one who caused that problem, but blog would be still visible. So there is clearly a small bug.

The same happened when I was trying to import WP XML file from onother blog what would cause automatic user creation.

Anyway, thanks for clearing that up! 😉
