• Recently I’ve been trying to setup a local “Sandbox” blog based on my production environment for testing and backup purposes. This blog uses a local copy of the live site’s files and database, with a few changes to allow it to be hosted in a different location.

My problem is this: Upon successfully creating local copies of my database and content files, and replacing all references to my production site with local addresses I am able start Apache to see the regular splash page with all of my posts. Unfortunately when I navigate to a specific post I receive a 404 error. The same is true for pages and category/date archives.

Even when I create a new post using the local environment, I am still only able to see its content through the main page. As far as I know, other than /blog/wp-login and /blog/wp-admin, I am not able to access any sub-pages of the /blog landing page.

Has anyone encountered any similar problems migrating databases?
