• While using the Customizr Child theme, I’m having difficulty with my blog photos being uploaded.

    1) When writing a new blog page, I select “Featured Image” to the right and select my photo.

    2) The featured image shows as a thumbnail on my landing page, linking to the entry. So far, so good.

    3) …But upon opening the page, my featured image has become a large cropped rectangle.

I want the full image to be seen, not a crop. The look is very unprofessional.

Is this part of the theme itself? Can it be changed using any backend code?

How do I fix this? Thank you for your time.

  • We’re supposed to create one image to spec size for the Featured and use a regular sized image for the page. This is true of all themes.

    Hi Deb,

Thanks very much for your reply.

I would like to use a regular sized image for the page – that’s my goal!

But when I upload a Featured image for my thumbnail, a rectangular crop of the same image will appear on my page, approx. 2222×500 pixels.

I would like for there not to be a 2222×500 image at all, so I can upload my own photo.

Is there a way to do this?

First you crop to the required dimensions. That’s proportion. Then you Export or Save As and choose a much lower size and resolution. 250×270 (or is it 270×250). This isn’t a WP thing; it’s a learning how to use image software. You don’t want more pixels than the requirement.

I recommend a cropping software. Or a great photo software:
    https://affinity.serif.com/en-us/photo/
$49 Mac or Win, $20 iPad

Or on Mac, something like this:
    https://64bitapps.com/how-to-batch-resize-pictures-on-mac-os-x/
There are others at 64bit and also other places.

Also that you keep the size of photos smaller. 1000px looks perfectly good on a screen.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Deb,

Thanks once again for your response.

I have both cropped the image and reduced the resolution, but the large 2222×500 rectangle displaying the cropped feature image remains on the blog. It takes whatever the featured image is and stretches it to fit that space (the quality of the picture dropped dramatically after the crop/resolution changes).

Is there any way I could get WordPress to simply not show the featured image in the blog post, only designating it for the thumbnail?

    Thanks again for your time.

I am afraid that I am out of my area of knowledge. There are several versions of the theme and I don’t know the details of each of them. There are different views options that you can choose. I recommend looking in the customizer section and going over them all carefully seeing what each does. I am certain there is a guide to help you with this. You can search for it on their site. Or maybe someone else who works for them I can take over and help.

I wish you much luck with this. It’s a great theme.

Thank you Deb! You’re great. I’ll have a look.

If anyone else thinks they might have an idea, I’d be open to the help.

    Appreciate it!
