Support » Networking WordPress » ‘Specific’ Blog aggregation. Possible yet?

  • A little over a year ago, i asked this question and was told it wasn’t possible (By whom, I do not recall.)

So a year later i will ask again. 🙂

I would like to replace Joomla with WordPress (yea me!) for my towns community site. I want ALL of my members to have their own blogs (personal blogs) but would like to have a few ‘official’ blogs as well (ex. City Water dept., local hospital, local library, etc) and for these official blogs, have designated people that can can write/edit its contents.

Now the key is, i would like to be able to aggregate these ‘official’ blogs, and place the newest ‘news’ of these ‘official’ blogs on the MAIN FRONT page of my site; kind of a ‘whats new in our community’ type of thing.
So if I wanted to aggregate 4 ‘official’ blogs I could have the very latest entry of each of those four blogs on my home page with a ‘more’ link going to that specific blog.

Does any of this make sense? I tried the best I could to explain my need but can might can go into greater detail if needed.

Essentially, Im just wondering if this can be done via an official release of mu wordpress, or even with a third party plugin.

Im not seeking an RSS feed solution, as I would like to be able to include any images if they exist in the blogs im aggregating.

    I ‘did’ found THIS plugin:

But it appears to aggregate ALL the blogs (including common user blogs. I have to be specific about which blogs I pull from.
Would anyone have any idea please if this is yet possible?

    Thank you for reading!

  • Addendum, I did find this post where Andrea_R stepped up and assisted, but once again, I need to pull ‘specific’ blogs; not all of them.

Are you looking for a particular plugin, or just code?

Because I don’t think there’s a plugin, but I *do* think there’s some code kicking around the mu forums.

Honestly Andrea, a Plugin, a code snippet, even a half-eaten happy meal would tickle me pink if it could do this!! 🙂

This function could be used with a static front page:

I don’t know how you’d integrate them into a cohesive blog appearance, but if you wanted four ‘sections’, that might work.

Thank you, Ipstenu. I went to the link, and the author had a demo of the snippet pointing to:, and through this demo, it appears its ‘only’ going to show a hotlinked subject line.

This would possibly work, if I weren’t dependent on the ‘official’ blogs providing much needed news content to my main page.

Rather than just a header, I am needing the body as well of the latest blog… or at ‘least’ ‘x’ amount of it.

Extrapolating from that, if you can pull the blog title, you can pull the post (or excerpt) too.

I swear I saw someone hack some code to do this, but sleep depravation is sucking my smart out.

lol! You’re fortunate to have something to blame your ‘Smart Suck’ on. I, on the other-hand, have no such scape goat. 😉

Im using keywords of aggregate and extrapolate to try and find this hack that it appears both you AND Andrea_R have seen, but as of yet, nothing jumping up saying “Me! ME!”…

    …And still I peruse… 🙂

Dude, heat is eating/melting my brain cells…

(heh, half eaten happy meals… been there…)

    Some helpful threads:

Thank you both, very much, for the leg work in finding these links. Maybe between them both, something can be molded into a workable solution. 🙂

So with that, I guess I should go ahead and get my migration from joomla underway, at least on my sandbox server..

Hey folks… I’m sorry to pummel as passed-on pony here, but I had another thought…

What if on my main blog, I set up categories for the ‘official’ blogs?
Is there a known way to give users rights to to add content to specific categories? or at the very least to individual pages within those categories?

I’m looking all throughout my admin control panel and I don’t see anything there by default. I found a plugin that seemingly allowed this for the individual pages, but it hasn’t been updated in months, and several versions behind 3.0.

Nope, not really. (not that I’m aware of anyway)
