To add to this, I suspect that the problem is due to a conflict between the latest versions of Gutenberg built into WordPress and the Gutenberg plugin. The reason that the Gutenberg plugin is also in use is because the official AMP plugin requires it also to be installed in order for AMP stories to display.
Deactivating the Gutenberg plugin has allowed the blocks to appear normally, so I guess the workaround is to deactivate the Gutenberg plugin while editing, and then to reactivate it if you are displaying AMP stories!
I won’t mark this as resolved yet, in case a developer has any advice to add.
I am big fan of AMP Stories!
But I digress… Did you by any chance try it again with the 6.1.1 version that was released yesterday?
I ran into a similar thing yesterday and after the install of 6.1.1 is went away…
If it doesn’t fix it for you, I have a couple more questions….
Do you use any other 3rd party blocks from plugins
Are there specific blocks that overlap? Or is that in general
Hi Birgit,
Thank you for your reply. I did install v6.1.1, hoping that was a fix, but there is no improvement.
It is interesting that you ask about 3rd party blocks. I have the 3rd party CoBlocks plugin and sometimes use its spacer block. I have just tried deactivating the CoBlocks plugin, and the overlap problem disappears, even if the Gutenberg plugin is active.
If I deactivate the Gutenberg plugin, the problem disappears, even if the CoBlocks plugin is active. So perhaps there is a conflict between the CoBlocks and Gutenberg plugins!
It is a problem in general with blocks, and happens whether I create a new paragraph block, or an image block, for example.
Seems to be related to this issue with CoBlocks: https://github.com/godaddy/coblocks/issues/668
I also tested this and found a cover block overlapping Block toolbars of the following block and filed an issue on Github.. If this looks familiar, please comment on it, too.
@paul-sutherland for the time being as a workaround, you could enable the “Top Toolbar” from the 3-dot menu on top right. It keeps the block toolbar in one place on the top of the screen.
