[resolved] Blockquote indents text, but doesn't show italics (6 posts)

    Setting blockquote indents the text but doesn't italicise the font or otherwise style it.

    Strangely, setting the quoted text in italics then changes the text to italics and changes the font size itself, as described in the stylesheet - as seen here:

    I'm not sure that's any kind of bug. It was probably a design decision on the part of the theme's developer. There is no "standard" way of styling blockquotes.

    I didn't mean there should be a standard way of handling blockquotes, and I know that different themes handle them differently.

    What I meant was that this theme doesn't seem to handle them the way that its stylesheet suggests it does.

    This is what the stylesheet says:

    .format-quote blockquote {
    	color: #1e4a66;
    	font-size: 1.6em;
    	font-style: italic;
    	line-height: 1.6em;

    I am not a coder, so apologies in advance if I have misunderstood how this should work.

    Hi David,
    This was most likely an oversight (aka bug!) in the theme.

    Quotes in standard and other formats don't have any styling that make them "quote-y" looking, other than indentation. I think they should look better with italics and bigger font size ... we'll work on it and get the fix into a future version of the theme.

    If you want to fix it on your own, take off the .format-quote selector in that CSS block (for now).

    Hey David!

    You gotta work with style.css.

    I didn't like the italic. Look this post in my blog:

    My css:
    blockquote {color:#777;font:1.8em Georgia, serif;line-height:1.3em;margin:0 2em;position:relative}
    blockquote:before {display:block;content:"\201C";font-size:80px;position:absolute;left:-40px;top:15px;color:#7a7a7a}

    But if you want italic, you can use font-style:italic on blockquote rule above.

    I hope it can help.

    We updated the theme to reflect that. IT will be available to self-hosted blogs in the next release.
