Had some issues with the Gutenberg block editor since updating to WordPress 5.1.1.

When editing an existing blog, draft or new post it the screen goes white and a box appears reading:

The Editor has encounted an unexpected error

And has three boxes alongside: Attempt Recovery // Copy Post Text // Copy Error

The first two boxes do nothing – the copy error is this below:

I can however edit posts when I switch it back to the classic editor.

    Any ideas what’s causing this?

This may be a plugin or theme conflict. Please attempt to disable all plugins, and switch to the default Twenty Nineteen theme. If the problem goes away, enable them one by one to identify the source of the problem.

If you can install plugins, install Health Check. On the troubleshooting tab, you can click the button to disable all plugins and change the theme for you, while you’re still logged in, without affecting normal visitors to your site.

    Hi James

Health Check already installed and disabled all and used the 2019 theme and still did it – the only thing that solved it was installing the Gutenberg plugin, which I had never had installed previously. It was a hail mary that worked.
