Support » Plugin: Comments - wpDiscuz » bloated wp_commentmeta table

Hi. Bluehost deactivated my shared hosting account temporarily because they said my wp_commentmeta table had too many rows. There were 29,079 rows, and the majority of them were from wpdiscuz.

I deactivated and uninstalled wpdiscuz, cleaned out wpdiscuz entries from wp_commentmeta and wp_options, and then reinstalled wpdiscuz.

After reinstalling, I noticed there were a lot of wp_commentmeta entries with meta key wpdiscuz_votes, so I hid voting so users cannot vote. The table is still full of wpdiscuz_votes entries, and the number is growing. (It’s up to 3,927 lines, and when I refresh the search, the number increases.)

Can I delete all of the wpdiscuz_votes entries since I’m not using the feature? And how can I prevent more of them from being created?

    Hi bethfly,
I’d strongly recommend to change your hosting service. They don’t want to support even 29,000 rows? Oh my God! 29k is a normal count of rows, WordPress database supports even 10 and 100 million rows… 29k is nothing for MySQL database. Please ask a question “Is 29k a big number for WordPress MySQL table?” question in any support community and you’ll see that, this is normal count of rows, there is not an extra-ordinal.

Ok, sure, if you don’t use comment votes it would be better if wpDiscuz stops creating those rows in wp_postmeta. I agree with this point. I’m going to add this in our to-do list. We’ll care about this in near future releases.

Yes, I need to change my hosting service. One more thing on my endless to do list. Thank you! So, it’s okay for me to delete the ones that are there, right?

BTW, the wpdiscuz_votes entries are over 11K now. I guess the plugin is going through and recreating them for all 25K comments. (I’ve had this blog since 2007.)

There will no any issue if you delete those rows. But wpDiscuz generates this row for each comment, that’s useless to remove those. You should wait for the changed release.

My site is new so I don’t have as many as the other poster, but I’d like to know about getting rid of those rows too? Can we just turn off voting to stop them from appearing?
