Support » Plugin: WooCommerce PDF Invoices & Packing Slips » Blank screen when trying to create a PDF

  • Hi,

The plugin was working great until I updated to the last 5.3 WP version.

When I try to create a PDF now I get a blank screen. I tried to enable the “Enable debug output” but unfortunately I didn’t get any error message.

In the system configuration section of the plugin I can see that all is green but this in orange:

GMagick or IMagick>>Better with transparent PNG images>> No. Recommended for better performances.

I’m using the default PDF template.

I would appreciate very much if someone could help me to fix this.

    Thanks in advance!

Quite strange, our plugin is tested and compatible with WP5.3… Are you using the setting to open in a new tab or to download the PDF (General settings tab)? When you download the PDF, does it open properly?

Thanks for the fast reply Ewout. I can see that if I set up “Download the PDF” it works correctly, but if I set up “Open the PDF in a new tab” I get the blank screen.

I suspect that this is a plugin conflict, with another plugin setting the incorrect headers for the PDF file. Could you both post your System report from WooCommerce > Status? (I only need the ### Active Plugins section)

I have just tested having the Packing Slip set to download and that works which is good. I have a work around for the time being.

Interested to know if there is conflict.

    Thanks
    Charlotte

I have just noticed that it is strange that when you then click to open the downloaded PDFs they open twice ie. in two tabs, with the identical PDF pages. Definitely something up.

Crosschecking the plugin lists, the only similarities I see are

    • Google Analytics for WordPress by MonsterInsights by MonsterInsights – 7.10.0
    • WooCommerce PDF Invoices & Packing Slips by Ewout Fernhout – 2.3.5
    • WooCommerce by Automattic – 3.8.0

I have installed Google Analytics for WordPress by MonsterInsights on my test site but still couldn’t reproduce the issue. This may have to do with the fact that I haven’t set it up completely (I don’t have a GA account).
Could you test whether temporarily turning off that plugin fixes the issue?

@cutiecat regarding the issue of the PDF opening twice: is this when opening the file from Explorer (Windows) or Finder (OSX)? Or when you open it from a browser dialog? Can you test this with other PDF files not from our plugin?

Not being able to replicate the issue makes it much harder to fix it, but I have a possible fix that resets the headers sent to the browser to make sure it knows it’s a PDF file (since you can download without any issues I think this is what may be the issue). You can download this version of the plugin here: https://we.tl/t-Fjq1lH8P4j
If you have a staging site with the same issue and can test with this version, that’d be fantastic.

    Hi Ewout,

I turned off Google Analytics but the issue continues. I’m using Google Chrome as explorer. Unfortunately I don’t have a staging site.

What theme (+version) do you use?

    Plugin Author Ewout

    (@pomegranate)

    @martingale77 & @cutiecat
I still haven’t been able to reproduce the issue on my own test sites, unfortunately.

Could you let me know what operating system (Windows or OSX) and browser you use? Do you use any browser extensions for viewing PDF files?

I am using OSX and Chrome as my browser. HTH

I’d like to rule out the browser as being the culprit here (since both of you use Chrome), could you login to your site in another browser (e.g. Safari on OSX or Edge on Windows, or Firefox if you have it installed) and then open the PDF to see if it works there?
