Blank Screen in Edit/New Post/Page After Updating to 5.8

    After updating WP to version 5.8 it shows blank screen on “edit post/page” and “new post/page”/
    I installed “WP Downgrade’ plugin and downgraded the WP version back to 5.7.2.
    Now in desktop it works again.
    But in mobile it still shows blank screen in those pages.
    I saw on Google that i’m probably not the only one with this bug, but couldn’t find the solution.

    Upgrade to 5.8 again, and let’s track down what’s causing this.

    This may be a plugin or theme conflict. Please attempt to disable all plugins, and switch to the default Twenty Twenty-One theme. If the problem goes away, enable them one by one to identify the source of the problem.

    If you can install plugins, install Health Check. On the troubleshooting tab, you can click the button to disable all plugins and change the theme for you, while you’re still logged in, without affecting normal visitors to your site.

    Same problem in Safari. I’m using the classic editor. Can edit in Firefox but some things not working like ‘preview’ and ‘add media’ buttons in the editor. I can add photos to the media library but not then add them to the post from the library.
    I am using older versions of the browsers on a mac but up until this update everything worked fine.
    I will try the health check troubleshoot…

    No difference with all plugins off. And 5.8 also disables the ‘select all’ button (and other similar buttons) making selecting each plugin quite laborious.

    Any difference with the Twenty Twenty-One theme active?

    Note: Please don’t use edits for new info, folks involved in the thread aren’t notified of those, so it’s just by chance I visited the thread and saw anything after “I will try the health check troubleshoot.”

    The Twenty Twenty-One theme was activated (in fact was the only one available) in troubleshooting mode, so no, no difference.

    It’s clearly something that is not working well in the 5.8 Wp update. You can try suggesting to deactivate plugins or install different themes, but that’s not a real solution. I have a large live website which I can’t just change its theme and deactivate its plugins. I also read in other threads that it did not work.
    I think WordPress should quickly investigate and update to 5.8.1 with a clear and solid fix to this bug and not try to tell users to deactivate their plugins. The situation is very problematic now for a live website with hourly and daily news updates.

    I have a large live website which I can’t just change its theme and deactivate its plugins.

    As very clearly stated in my first reply to you:

    “If you can install plugins, install Health Check. On the troubleshooting tab, you can click the button to disable all plugins and change the theme for you, while you’re still logged in, without affecting normal visitors to your site.”

    There’s Firefox’s errors further down that long list.

    Not many Safari extensions – Translate 2.1.1 and Adblock.

    Version 9.1.3. I know. It’s ancient (in computer years), but it’s worked until now. I usually switch to Firefox ESR 52.5.0 when Safari malfunctions, but this time it too is letting me down.

    Ok, those versions are far too old.

    We can only support the current version of browsers and one version back, so that’s Safari 14 and 13, and Firefox 90 and 89: https://browsehappy.com/

    Please either update your browser or switch to a more up to date browser.

    Firefox ESR might work, but the latest on that is 78.12.0esr.

    Hi,
    I did that, all plugins deactivated in troubleshooting mode, but it still shows white blank screen on page or post edit screen.
    What else can be done?

    I thought you might say that. I’ll see if I can get a newer Firefox to work on this mac.

    If it won’t a major problem in updating is that I’ll need a new computer – which won’t run any of my many 32bit programs like Photoshop.

    Be simpler to stop being the webmaster.

    Updated to 5.8 again to test browsers.

    On the desktop Mac (El Capitan 10.11.6)
    Waterfox G3.2.4.1 (64-bit) appears to work. Firefox Developer edition 78.0b9 (64-bit) appears to work, however its appalling appearance rules it out!

    With a cursory trial so does Safari 10.0.1 on a laptop running High Sierra 10.13.6 (and the select all plugins button works), and on the same laptop the same version of Firefox (ESR 52.5.0) works better – certainly the editor buttons work. The plugin select all button doesn’t.

    Feeling a bit better about things now. Just don’t discontinue classic.

    This guy took over this thread, but no, it is not working, not on Chrome, not on Edge, not on Opera and not on FF.
    Still shows blank page
