After updating Twenty Eleven to 2.1, I received blank pages on the site including the dashboard. The Jetpack mobile version worked, but didn’t allow a login. Fortunately, I had started the upgrade process (WordPress 4.2, Jetpack 3.5 & Twenty Eleven 2.1) with a backup. After a bit of panic, I was able to restore the Twenty Eleven 2.0 folder from backup and got the site running again.

I have three very similar sites at the same levels, mostly the same plugins, same Twenty Eleven theme and similar child themes with minor mods to the footer. The other two sites had no problems Twenty Eleven 2.1. The site that failed does use a template for some pages. Could a template cause theme compatibility problems?

Hello, we’re very sorry about this issue. Please download a fresh copy of the theme and it will be fine. One of the servers had an incomplete copy of the theme, and if you happened to update to that, then you could have had this problem. The issue has been fixed, all the servers have been checked, and the complete theme is fine now. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Thanks, Otto! I downloaded a fresh copy of twentyeleven, unzipped and ftp’d it to the wp-content/themes directory after renaming the twentyeleven 2.0 folder. Everything seems to work, the WordPress “Updates” page on the Dashboard now shows all themes are up to date. However, when I go to “Appearance-Themes” on the Dashboard and check “Theme Details” it shows that I have “Twenty Eleven Version: 2.0” installed (it does Not have a link to upgrade). Should I worry or just call it resolved?

Don’t rename the folder, delete it. Install it fresh.
