 * how do I change the background color and the header to a different graphic file
   I have. The bg color I mean is not the bg in the content area but outside of 
   that. Thanks!

 * You’ll need to open your style.css of the current theme
    Look for the “body” 
   selector and change color to the hex code you choose
 * Changing the header image is slightly harder without seeing the site
