I really need it (many would) but sadly it’s missing. OR it’s there and I missed it
I am talking about allowing posts a status between ‘Published’ and ‘Moved to trash’ — like ‘Saved but not published’, preferably a toggle. On many sites, uploading an article and editing/updating it is not done by the same person.

Let me add that I am aware of the ‘Publish’ section but I find it very tedious to work with, and it could be unreliable at times.

    Thanks. Regards.

WordPress has “Save Draft” built-in. You can also return any published post to Draft at any time.

On many sites, uploading an article and editing/updating it is not done by the same person.

WordPress users with the built-in “Contributor” role can ONLY write and manage their own posts but cannot publish them. Their posts go into a “Pending Review” status awaiting an Editor or Administrator to review, edit and publish these posts. Even existing posts they edit go through the same review process.

And there are 3rd-party plugins that can fine-tune the available capabilities of individual users and create custom roles with bespoke capabilities. There are even plugins you can use to define and streamline your team’s editorial workflow.

So perhaps you want to take a look at your users’ roles and capabilities… and tweak your editorial workflow accordingly.

OMG! ‘Save Draft’ is staring at me and I missed it. Of course, glaucoma has damaged my normal vision. Anyway, thanks a lot, @gappiah 🙂
