Best way to Organize my Website (6 posts)

I need advice. My site will revolve around the 50 states. Under those 50 states there will be 4 categories. Under those categories i need a list of links. Those links need to go to pages with content. Only under these pages of content do I need people to post comments. How do I organize this site best? Should i have the 4 categories and 50 state pages for each. Or organize under the 50 states first? And should I use wp categories or wp pages. Thanks

There are other variables to consider but based on the info you gave, I would set up four categories and simply use tags for the states.

Or a custom taxonomy for the states would work as well... keeping your tags and categories free...

If you don't need the tags for anything else, that's the simplest route for sure!

Tell me more about the custom taxonomy. Do I need to be a theme developer to set this up and edit the code? Or can it be manged with a plugin?

Well, let's start by having you read what they are:
    http://codex.wordpress.org/Taxonomies#Custom_Taxonomies

They can work like categories, tags, etc. Those 2 just happen to be taxonomies that ship with WP

So, you can code your own of course... this website could even help you with the code
    http://generatewp.com/

There are also plugins out there such as this one I found (but have not tested, example only)
    http://wordpress.org/plugins/wck-custom-fields-and-custom-post-types-creator/

I'd recommend looking at the plugin options and seeing if you can find any reviews, etc.
