I am trying to set up Akismet in my WP.org site. Years before I had that site, I created a WP.com blog site. When I try to configure Akismet, it wants me to login with my WP.com user name. However, since this is for my .org site, which has a totally different email address that is not connected to WP.com at all, I assume I should use my .org credentials. However, Akismet via Jetpack doesn’t like these credentials. Can I solve this mismatch by making Jetpack change the user account to the one for my WP.org site? Or, is there a better solution? I’m sure this is a newbie question but I haven’t seen an answer to it anywhere. It’s because WP.com thinks it’s in charge of my .org site, apparently. Or, can I configure Akismet without using Jetpack? It’s not clear to me that Jetpack is doing anything for me at this point (my site published but far from finished). Thanks.

    Hi there,

Akismet and Jetpack both use WordPress.com accounts so you’ll need to login with your existing WP.com account or create a new one to use with your new site.

You can definitely configure Akismet without Jetpack as well by just installing the Akismet plugin independently. If you have more questions or need help untangling those accounts, feel free to contact us here and we can get into more details of your setup:
